Terry Flynn: I Owe You One is the first book in a series written by Australian author Matt Judd. He wrote this book after observing a bloke at his local pub.

It is the story of a 44-year-old Aussie bloke, Terry Flynn, living on Kingsford Smith Drive, one of the busiest roads on Brisbane’s north side with his mother. Terry is very rough around the edges, swears like a trouper, is lazy, can’t hold down a job, dishonest, loves a beer or ten, drives like a lunatic, and has an extremely short fuse. He has a grown-up daughter to a woman he was engaged to a long time ago. He always wears exactly the same outfit: one of 30 white polo shirts from the early 80s that all “fell off the back of a truck”, a pair of salmon coloured rugger shorts (one of 20, also from a truck) and usually a pair of thongs. He spends his days drinking, ogling the ladies, and sometimes trying to earn a bit of money, cash in hand of course!

Terry’s favourited phrase is “I owe you one.” It may be for a favour someone has done for him, or he did for them, but more often than not, it is for a wrong he perceives has been done. Terry never forgets and may wait 10 years to even the score. Terry has no qualms about treating his friends badly and is unable to control his temper with those who light his very short fuse.

Terry’s best friend Brian is unfortunately dragged into his many hair-brained schemes and finds himself in tricky and often dangerous situations. One day, Terry finds himself having to save his mother’s home and he will go to any lengths to do so.

For those who like to read about quite graphic one-sided fight scenes, someone who has no regard for the feelings of others, someone who constantly seeks retribution, and doesn’t mind the odd swear word or ten, this is the book for you. If you like reading a story with morals, stay clear!

Many will find I Owe You One hilarious, and see Terry as an Aussie battler and larrikin; a bit cheeky and definitely a loser, with the occasional moment of real emotion.

Just like Terry Flynn who loses someone close to him, author Judd will be donating a percentage of any profit made to Breast Cancer Network Australia in dedication to his mum.
