A colourful taste of Asian nightlife has hit King William Road, with vibrant restaurant 2nd of June serving modern Asian cuisine full of punchy flavours.
The restaurant is co-owned by brother-sister duo Thira and Than Rattanakosit and is their fifth venue- they also own Rue De Sian, Sorcerer’s Bar, Caribbean Bar, and Power Up Bar, all located in the CBD.
But 2nd of June is a different concept to their previous bars and restaurants, focusing purely on Asian cuisine. Inspired by the success of their CBD-based ventures, 2nd of June aims to create a unique dining experience on King William Road.
“We wanted to capture that vibe of modern Asian restaurants in Melbourne and bring it to Adelaide. There’s a lot of restaurants around but we just wanted to capture a different vibe and different atmosphere for diners to experience,” Thira says.
2nd of June features a distinctive neon design, a signature element creating an atmosphere reminiscent of late-night Tokyo vibes. The intimate restaurant boasts three distinctive spaces:
- The main bar, a visual treat with lanterns and cherry blossoms, allows patrons to dine amidst the allure.
- The ‘Lantern Room’ dazzles with a cascade of color-changing lanterns, exuding a Chinatown aura.
- The ‘Cherry Blossom/Sakura Room’ transports diners to Japan with lanterns and a ceiling draped in gorgeous cherry blossoms.

“The overall restaurant is Asian nightlife in the streets; it is full of very vibrant, pink and blue colours, lots of neon. You get an 80s disco kind of vibe, it is very groovy and the playlist of music suits the interior,” Thira says.
“We wanted to give you that ‘first date night’ vibe, it is very comfortable and cosy, new, and I love the Tokyo street vibes at night, the colours are phenomenal.”
Thira says they wanted people in Adelaide to experience what it was like to dine within the Asian street nightlife and the venue’s funky interior makes for a memorable dining experience.

The menu boasts food full of innovative flavours and which are very strong and explosive, so you can be sure you’re getting a true taste of Asian street food.
Some of the highlight starters on the menu are close to the hearts of Thira and Than. This includes their homemade dumplings, which are made using their mum’s recipe.
“This is what I grew up eating, mum got the recipe from Grandma, I love eating it so much. We wanted to bring our homemade recipe that what we eat is what you eat- the quality won’t drop, the taste won’t drop.”
Other must-tries include the fried wonton with salted duck egg sauce, tuna tartare with homemade mayo served on nori and rice paper, and Thira’s personal favourite: umami hokkien noodles stir fried with tom yum paste, umami butter sauce and prawn oil from the prawn head. For the adventurous, there’s even a crocodile stir fry infused with basil and white wine.

But it doesn’t end there. The dessert list beckons with treats such as an alcoholic coconut pudding shaped like a flower, paired with mango vanilla and a coconut rum sauce.
Also offering a range of international beers, cocktails, Japanese gins, and sakes, there’s something for every palate. Their signature ‘matchatini’ – a blend of white chocolate, cream, vodka, and Japanese matcha – has been one of the top sellers since they opened.
