Sofia, a chic new bistro located on Hutt Street, officially opens its doors today. The exciting new venue is the latest venture from hospitality expert, Joshua Baker, who describes Sofia as Part Time Lover’s European sibling. The bistro is set to be an extension of Part Time Lover, offering a more mature and polished dining experience.

“It’s going to be a really fun venue,” Joshua Baker says.

“It’s our interpretation of a bistro, which means it can be a café, a restaurant, a bar, or anything in between.”

Unlike many grand openings, Sofia is skipping out on the elaborate events. After hosting private functions to thank friends and family for their support, the team is ready to casually welcome the public with open arms. There will be no grand “here we are”, Monday’s opening is simply the first opportunity for the community to visit and check it out.

“Come and get amongst the food. Come and stand at the kitchen pass, ask the chef some questions, eat some tasty stuff,” Joshua says.

“I want to try and make it so relaxed in a way that just takes the stuffiness away.”

The menu at Sofia is designed to reflect a balance between accessibility and innovation. Diners can expect small plates like marinated olives and the exclusive Sofia sopressa, paired with handmade fermented flatbreads.

From the oven, there will be protein-heavy mains like juicy steaks or whole sides of fish. Picture a table filled with shared plates, where you can dig in with your hands and enjoy a standout main.

Sofia has been named in tribute to Joshua’s business partner John Savva’s late mother, because of her Cypriot background and her welcoming, open-kitchen spirit.

“Her kitchen was always open. She was always having fun, she was always smiling, and she was always wanting to feed people,” Joshua says.

“That is essentially what we want to replicate, that feeling of inclusiveness and that everyone is welcome.”

Sofia’s interior showcases the creative touch of Matiya Marovich from Sans-Arc Studio, known for iconic Adelaide establishments like Pink Moon Saloon and Whistle & Flute. The design ensures that the bistro is not just a feast for diner’s bellies, but a feast for their eyes as well.

Head to Sofia today, or this week, at 16 Hutt Street and immerse yourself in an inclusive, delightful dining experience that honours tradition, while embracing modern elegance.

“Come in and enjoy it, no matter who you are, what you’re wearing… come in and just enjoy what we’ve got,” Joshua says.
