Your guide on where to eat and drink in Henley Beach

When the sun comes out, what better place to soak it up than with a day by the sea and Henley Beach has all the venues you need to enjoy a day out.

Henley Beach has always been a summer hot spot but over the past few years, the beachside suburb has boomed! A collection of brand-new delicious eateries and beachfront bars have popped up, and alongside the already amazing existing venues, Henley is shaping up to be the must-be Summer location.

Whether you want to dine in, grab some takeaway, park up on the lush green grass or take to the sand, Henley Beach is the place to be once the temperature starts rising and we know all the best places to try.

Bacchus Bar – 253 Esplanade, Henley Beach

An institution of Henley Beach, this beachfront haven is perfect for a quick drink or settling in for the afternoon and watching the sun go down right in front of you. Tuck into one of their infamous sharing platters filled with some of the best seafood in the area and jive to live music on Saturdays and Sundays. Open for breakfast on the weekends and late into the evenings, we recommend booking or getting in early because with its prime position, this place packs out.

Beachside Bagels – 2/330 Seaview Road

New kids on the block, Beachside Bagels, is the window-front shop at Henley’s resident Mexican eatery, Mia Margarita. Serving classic flavour combos like pulled pork, smoked salmon and the Rueben, this grab-and-go style eatery is the perfect warm weather brunch or lunch. Open from 7am-2pm, grab a coffee and a bagel post walk or swim and you’re set for the day!

Blue Rose – 28/330 Seaview Road

As Gondola Gondola’s beachside little sister, you can be assured you’re in good hands with a meal at Blue Rose. The modern-Asian cuisine is the same great quality as Gondola but with more Chinese and Taiwanese influences.

Bottega Gelateria – 249A Seaview Rd

If the gigantic line down Seaview Road was a good enough indication of just how good this gelateria is, then we don’t know what is. The artisanal, award-winning ice-cream is made fresh on-site the traditional, Italian way with no nasties meaning it’s better for you (or at least that’s what we keep telling ourselves). Offering a delicious range of flavours, including vegan options, we highly recommend having your cone filled with chocolate that comes directly from the chocolate tap! (Now you can understand why people wait in in line…)

Burger Republic – 330-334 Seaview Rd, Henley Beach

Looking as if it has come right out of a New York diner, this burger joint reflects its look with classic burgers and hotdogs. Every burger is handmade with love and served on a brioche bun and house sauces. Pair it with some thick-cut chips and a nice cold beer or thick shake and you’ve got yourself the perfect warm-weather meal.

HNLY – 253A Seaview Rd

Sitting high above Henley Square, HNLY Bar and Restaurant is an elegant yet approachable spot for both a sit-down meal or a cocktail with friends. Offering top-quality seafood and an esteemed wine list, the newest addition to the area has made quite a splash with the locals with its enclosed balcony the best seat in the house to overlook the ocean (and people watch!)

High Tide Bar – 255 Esplanade, Henley Beach

Arguably the best spot for a sunset drink in the square, High Tide is the adjoining bar to Henley’s Thai Orchard restaurant. The outdoor bar sits as close to the ocean as you can get with the full food menu available from indoors. Kick back as the sun goes down with a cold beer and a hot curry and you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in Bali.

Joe’s – Esplanade, Henley Beach

An icon of Henley Beach, Joe’s recent facelift has breathed new life into the building and brought with it a hoard of new love from locals and passers by. Offering a full menu as well as great coffee and tasty pastries, Joe’s is the ultimate spot to soak up the morning rays. During the warmer months they also hold cocktail nights on the weekend and on Thursdays you can join in a relaxing yoga class overlooking the subtle blue hues of Henley Beach.

MALOBO – 257 Seaview Rd

Many will be familiar with this Henley square bakery and in-house terrace restaurant. Every weekend MALOBO will typically have a fast paced crowd getting coffees and pastries to go but why not venture inside to sip some cocktails and eat some tapas?

Melt – 269 Seaview Rd, Henley Beach

With both communal tables great for sharing or more intimate booth seating, you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the ocean with your meal.

Mia Margarita – 330 Seaview Rd, Henley Beach

A modern, two-storey Mexican eatery and cocktail bar, Mia Margarita offers casual dining with all your favourite Mexican dishes plus a great assortment of cocktails to choose from. The fun, funky restaurant is open for dinner every night except Monday and is the perfect beginning to a long evening in Henley.

Ramsgate Hotel – 328 Seaview Rd

The quintessential pub in Henley Square was built in 1897 and has been a vital part of Henley ever since. With an outdoor seating over-looking the square, an enclosed beer garden, live entertainment and quality food, it’s no wonder the Rammy has stood the test of time.

Seamore’s – 255 Esplanade, Henley Beach

Enjoy casual Italian food and quality cocktails while overlooking the iconic Henley Jetty from the aesthetically-pleasing booths of Seamore’s. This spot is always a buzz with life, seamlessly transitioning from casual eatery to late-night cocktail bar as the night progresses. Weekly food and drink specials make it even more of a hit.

SeaSalt Society – 269 Seaview Rd, Henley Beach

Situated just underneath Melt, the upmarket fish and chippery is a casual yet chic eatery that is perfect to soak up the summer vibes. Perfectly toeing the line between fine and casual dining, SeaSalt’s snack-focused menu puts a fancy twist on all the classics. Think tacos, oysters, sashimi and katsu sandos. Head down on a Sunday to enjoy the weekly Sunday Sessions that are always a hit!

Secrets by the Sea – 207 Esplanade, Henley Beach

Sitting outside the hustle and bustle of Henley Square, Secrets By The Sea offers the same stunning views in a more peaceful setting. Run by a former fisherman, the menu is filled with fresh, seasonal seafood and boasts an impressive drinks list with a large selection of wine, whiskey and gin.

Stella Restaurant – 2/257 Seaview Rd

A mainstay in Henley for more than 20 years, Stella offers a traditional Italian menu flecked with modern-European influence and with its location at the front of the square and ocean views you’ll be whisked away to the cliffs of Positano as you sit sipping Aperol and feasting on seafood linguini.

Sunnyside – 245 Esplanade

Brunch the way it should – Sunnyside serves up pancake stacks, loaded bagels and the ultimate big brekky. Add on the Bottomless Mimosa’s package for just $35pp and you’ve got yourself a fun day out in the sun with the gang. Keep an eye out for the regular All You Can Eat Dumpling nights too!

The Local Canteen – 32 Main Street

From the team that brought you The Seller Door in Brighton, comes a grab-and-go style cafe that focuses on innovative, quality coffee and snacks. Nitro coffee and acai bowls on tap, this new Henley cafe focuses on speciality coffee and quality, locally sourced small bites to accompany.

Sitting just outside the hustle and bustle of the square it’s just a hop, skip and a jump away from the beach and is perfect for a grab-and-go before you head down.

Part of the same building of West and SeaSalt Society, West is Henley’s ultimate outdoor rooftop bar. The intimate space is fulled with rounded with green suede booths that make it easy on the eyes just like the view. With a focus on gin and cocktails, this is a quaint yet striking bar that is the perfect nightcap for after dinner.
