Shop ‘Til You Drop At Rundle Mall’s Midnight Bonanza On Black Friday

The global sales event was the city’s second biggest trading day of 2018, and this year is going to be even BIGGER.

Midnight trading and discounts of up to 50 per cent are expected to draw shoppers out in force to Rundle Mall for the Black Friday retail phenomenon on Friday, 29 November.

Rundle Mall General Manager Johanna Williams says the global sales event was the city’s second biggest trading day of 2018, with all indications it will be bigger again this year as South Australians take advantage of once-a-year bargains.

“The number of retailers taking part in Black Friday has grown significantly year on year, with more than 150 Rundle Mall retailers last year offering discounts of 20, 30, 40 and 50 per cent off a wide range of items from homewares to fashion,” Ms Williams said.

“These discounts, combined with increasing awareness of Black Friday, made Rundle Mall three times busier than a usual Friday last year.

“This year we’re pleased to have three extra hours of trading through until midnight which we’re celebrating with Pirate Life tastings at Bronze Bar, and DJs, live music and giveaways along the Mall. When you combine that festivity with even more participating retailers, Black Friday is set to be even bigger again in 2019.”

Originating in the US, Black Friday is held the day after Thanksgiving and has become the biggest shopping day in the US, with billions of dollars spent instore and online. It’s rapidly gained momentum worldwide, with 83% of Australians now aware of the sales event and close to 60% of consumers planning to shop this Black Friday.

Just over a third of Australian shoppers are expected to know exactly what they want to buy this Black Friday, with the average spend rising from $263 in 2018 to a likely $375 this year.

“The most popular Black Friday purchases are typically clothing, shoes, electronics, cosmetics and perfumes, followed by home and garden products,” Ms Williams said.

“Our electronics retailers have said that televisions and gaming consoles such as Nintendos and Playstations are incredibly popular, and they’re expecting to also see some good discounts on mobile phone and tablets this year.

“Some retailers will unveil their Black Friday promotions a few days before, others will release them on the day, so our advice is know what you’re looking for and plan ahead so you can make the most of your time in-store.

“Whether you’re looking for a new dress for your Christmas party, homewares to prepare the house for festive gatherings or houseguests, or you’re starting your Christmas shopping, you can expect to see healthy Black Friday discounts across all the international, national and local brands we have in Rundle Mall.”

Rundle Mall’s Black Friday sale will be taking place on Friday 29 November.
