A South Australian Winery Flies High With The Spirit Of Australia

We all know that South Australian wine is the best in the world (and that’s not us being bias). Find out how one South Australian winery is kicking goals and flying high…

South Australia knows its wine and Qantas, ‘the spirit of Australia’, have recognised that… To celebrate what is some of the best wine in the world, they have announced that they will be serving up two drops from Adelaide Hills-based winery Paracombe Wines.

If you are lucky enough to be flying Business Class, then you will have a beverage selection that includes the Paracombe 2011 Shiraz and the Paracombe 2015 Pinot Gris.

The Shiraz is set to be served up to those flying international routes, while the Pinot Gris will satisfy those on domestic flights.

“It’s a great honour and an incredible opportunity for us to have our wines served on Australia’s iconic airline,” Paracombe Wines’ Kathy Drogemuller said.

“And to have not one but two of our wines selected is extraordinary.” Ms Drogemuller, who established the award-winning Paracombe Wines with husband Paul in the wake of the 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires that decimated the Adelaide Hills, said she anticipated the wines’ exposure to business travellers across the world would shine a spotlight on the brand.

“We expect that there will be people who will seek out our wines in their home states, cities and countries, creating strong awareness and growth for our wines – especially as chosen labels are also sold through Qantas epiQure to Frequent Flyer members,” she said.

“It is also wonderful to be given such a world-class platform to raise the profile of the beautiful Adelaide Hills Wine region and the fine wine it produces.”

The Paracombe Shiraz – described as displaying an intense bouquet of cherries, plums, white pepper and spice and delivering layered flavours of rich, spicy fruit, hints of dark chocolate and cherry with subtle French Oak notes – has been shipped and is now being served on select international flights.

The Paracombe Pinot Gris, made in a style reflective of the wonderful fruit characters of the variety, will be ordered later in the year.

“We’re naturally delighted to be a part of the Qantas wine program. We congratulate Qantas for supporting smaller regional wine producers and we look forward to providing added inflight enjoyment to the airline’s business class passengers as they sit back, relax and savour a fine glass of Paracombe wine,” Ms Drogemuller said.
