Have you been making your own barrel blend of fortified wine? Liebichwein are asking you to submit yours to their annual competition.

Barossa winery, Liebichwein are seeking the best home barrel blend of fortified wine in their annual competition.

Budding wine blenders from all around the country can submit their fortified wines for the chance to be crowned ‘best fortified blend’, with the winner receiving an engraved wooden dipstick trophy.

Prizes of rare fortified samples will also be awarded to the top three wines. All entrants receive feedback on their wines from the judging panel.

Entires in the Home Barrel Competition are just $10 each and open Australia-wide. The 200mL wine samples can be dropped off at Liebichwein cellar door, or posted to the winery from anywhere in Australia.

Whilst you drop in your sample, you can purchase a range of fortified styles and blends from the Liebichwein cellar door. They offer a range of red and white varieties, including Muscat, Semillon, Frontignac and Grenache.

Fortified wines have a long history in the Barossa Valley, with winemaker Ron Liebich having completed over 50 vintages, with a special focus on fortified wines. He continues a 100-year tradition of Liebich family winemaking.

The competition is more fitting than ever in a year where many people are staying close to home due to COVID-19.

All entries must be received by August 24, download an entry form here.

You can find Liebichwein at 151 Steingarten Road, Rowland Flat.
